BASIL – THE PLANT
Scientific name: Ocimum Basilicum. Description: annual herb, height over 0.70 m., of the Lamiaecaea family, ornamental. Origins: Tropical and subtropical zones of Africa and Asia, primarily India. History: Ancient references to its therapeutic uses found in Greek physician Dioscorides, in texts of Indian Ayurveda practices and in ancient Chinese texts.

Technique: Extracted from the leaves of the plant through steam distillation. Composition: High concentration (almost 80%) of methyl chavicol, the ingredient that ensures its therapeutic qualities. Aromatics: Tanins, estragole, camphor, lineol. Scent: Fresh, smooth, slightly spicy and colour light yellow. Country: India.
QUALITIES
Strong anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-convulsive.
USES
Against coughing, cold, flu. Widespread use in massage, against cramps, muscle pain and period pain. Ideal for diffusers. Widespread use against depression, stress, frailty, intellectual fatigue. Room freshener-disinfectant, insect repellant. It is considered to bring luck!
